Many who have experienced the exhilarating jolt of rushing in a Junkanoo parade have often come back year after year, to relive the unique, immersive, and pulsating sensory stimulation of the vibrant colors, light catching tricks, booming instruments, and the adrenaline surge that is “SHOWTIME!” on Rawson Square. Gerald Lotmore, like many others, has been a Junkanoo enthusiast for nearly his entire life, and is still genuinely excited by the mere thought of making his way down Bay Street. He has participated as a D Division entrant for over a decade and spends much of his time painstakingly designing and creating his Junkanoo pieces. During the 2019 Boxing Day parade, his hard work paid off with a first place finish. And, during the New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade, he also took home an impressive second place finish for his ode to the Bahamian islands.

Lotmore starts thinking up and sketching new designs early in the year, and he is already thinking about Boxing Day 2020. Like every year, since 2008, the Caribbean Bottling Company (CBC) will once again assist Lotmore on his Bay Street journey, as a monetary and product sponsor.

“CBC has been helping me for 13 years” noted Lotmore. “I came to the company in 2008, and since then they have been with me.”

Lotmore noted that Junkanoo is his passion. He takes immense pride in painstakingly crafting his pieces by hand, carefully cutting and pasting crepe paper, hot gluing tricks, taking his visions from sketch to reality, and paying homage to the long standing traditions of costume creation.

“Over the years, we have truly enjoyed supporting Mr. Lotmore and his journey to Bay Street” noted Nikia Wells, CBC Communications Marketing Manager. “When he calls, his energy and enthusiasm is just infectious. And, his joy and pride puts a smile on our team’s faces every time he tells us excitedly about his plans, and his progress. We not only admire his love for Junkanoo and his eagerness to preserve our Bahamian culture, but we have truly enjoyed being a part of his journey.”

Lotmore was one of two Junkanoo groups that performed on Bay Street with the support of Coca-Cola, during the most recent parades.

Team CBC also took to Bay Street with the One Family Junkanoo group, and shimmied down the parade route while keeping participants and spectators hydrated with ice-cold Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola No Sugar. Once Family’s 2020 New Year’s Day Parade theme “Some Like It Hot! Some Like It Cold!” featured a fun, hot and cold theme, complete with a Coca-Cola snow globe. CBC has been a sponsor of One Family for the past several years, and the company is proud to support the advancement of Bahamian culture.
