Doongalik Studios is very excited to announce the Book Launch on Thursday, December 19 from 6-8pm of two new children’s book by Bahamian author, Carol A. Lightbourn entitled Misty the Surrey Horse and Peppy Potcake which were published locally by Media Enterprises Ltd. Her first children’s book, Lincoln the Lazy Lizard, was published in 2000.

The stories in the two new books were written in the 80s when her son, Jonathan Brown, was a young boy, and were published weekly, without the illustrations, in The Tribune’s Children’s Section. They are being released now to celebrate the birth this year of the author’s granddaughter, Summer Moon Brown.

Misty the Surrey Horse is the short story of a surrey horse who works in Nassau taking tourists on tours of the town. Although she was mistreated and has a nasty accident, the story has a happy ending as Misty survives her accident and becomes famous. Misty the Surrey Horse was illustrated by the late Bahamian Master Artist, Brent Malone, and his illustrations for this story have never been seen before.

Peppy Potcake is an eight chapter children’s novel written and illustrated by Ms. Lightbourn which tells the tale of a potcake puppy who escapes from the bush. His travels take him on many adventures on the island of Nassau, including visits to Junkanoo and the Ardastra Gardens. It also has a happy ending when Peppy is adopted from the Bahamas Humane Society. Both books are available in local bookstores just in time for Christmas.
