Since the launch of SELD's extensive public relations campaign during the last academic year, there has been an increase in the number of government scholarship applicants. The Division has gone from 5,000 general applicants in 2017/2018 to 5,666 in 2018/2019. Of those candidates, 3,356 (72%) were from New Providence, while the stats of family island recipients showed a marked improvement of 1,094 (24.58%) total applicants.

The Scholarship Division seeks to provide even more Bahamian students with a multiplicity of opportunities to pursue the careers of their dreams by establishing the necessary networks through local and international partnerships. Accordingly, the Division has secured relationships with approximately 30 international colleges and universities, and it is anticipated that this number will expand as discussions with numerous North American colleges and universities are ongoing.

The aim is to propagate communities of young people equipped to embrace tertiary education in hopes of them becoming globally competitive citizens. Hence, the Scholarship Division admonishes potential applicants to peruse the criteria for scholarships offered, and to adhere to the stipulated deadlines. Additionally, the public is advised that completion of an application does not automatically qualify one for a desired scholarship. All applications are subject to the review and sanctioning of the appointed committee.
