University of The Bahamas’ Government and Public Policy Institute (GPPI) launched its first Policy in the Park with a spotlight on youth perspectives concerning the future of The Bahamas. Executive Director of GPPI, Zhivargo Laing, also the host of the Guardian Talk Radio show “Z Live: Off The Record”, hosted the show on UB’s Independence Park at the Oakes Field Campus on Thursday, 21st November.

The guests were UB students and alumni including Benjamin Davis, owner of Drive Green Car Rentals and a 2019 graduate; Jeron Johnson, a law and criminal justice major and Shellico Moxey Jr., culinary arts freshman. They shared their views on matters related to immigration, the LGBTQ community, marijuana use, qualifications for entry into political office and other current affairs topics. UB students who attended the event were also engaged in the live broadcast discussion.

An initiative of GPPI designed to increase public engagement and recommendations on public policies, Policy in the Park will be hosted at community parks across New Providence and will eventually expand to the Family Islands. Its purpose is to increase public engagement on current public policy issues impacting communities and to garner recommendations for new public policies that will enhance the overall growth and development of The Bahamas.
