For Bahamians, the holiday season is about family, food…and Bootleg Chocolates. The premier artisanal chocolate brand is preparing to unveil a brand new addition to its line of caramels to herald the official start of the gift-giving season. Chocolate is a tasty gift and a great way to thank clients and employees with a treat they are guaranteed to appreciate.

For more than a decade, the creative mother/daughter team of Daphne Ormerod-Cates and Amanda Ormerod-Mullen has perfected a series of signature recipes that have thrilled the taste buds of chocolate lovers across the country. Since its launch in 2010, the brand has blossomed into the leading provider of Bahamian-inspired, gourmet chocolates.

Bootleg Chocolates are handcrafted in a factory on Grand Bahama Island, and delivered across the archipelago, catering to high-end boutique hotels like Pelican Bay and The Island House, major resort properties like The One Club/Four Seasons and Baha Mar, as well as high-end retailers and organizers of specialty events. “We’ve worked hard to build relationships with amazing customers who have supported us since the very start,” notes Ormerod-Mullen.

The brand’s newest offering combines the essence of the Eleuthera pineapple with the decadence of sweet caramel. For Christmas chocolate enthusiasts, this year’s Bootleg collection will also include a dazzling line of handmade Chocolate Snowmen. The dark chocolate Snowman is filled with a milk chocolate praline buttercream, the milk chocolate Snowman has a rum cake-flavored filling and the white chocolate is a minty Snowman. All of which, will be officially unveiled at the annual Jollification Holiday Festival hosted at the Bahamas National Trust off Village Road.

“These pieces we’ve produced for this holiday season represents our first offering since Hurricane Dorian blew through Grand Bahama Island. We had planned to unveil a few more products this season but now our customers will have even more goodies to look forward to next year. Jollification may be a chance, however, for our customers to experience our new peanut butter chocolate bar.”

“We were lucky to not to have experienced damage at the level that other local businesses have,” Amanda notes, “but we like countless other businesses are still dealing with the fallout of the storm. Thankfully, we are in full production and have not missed any delivery dates with our top clients. We hope to have a successful season and confident that with the support of our loyal customers we will be able to get back on track.”

As Bootleg Chocolates works toward full restoration on Grand Bahama, co-owner Amanda Ormerod-Mullen notes that plans are in the works to refocus its efforts on the Nassau and Family Island markets.

“This will be our sixth year participating in Jollification and it’s an experience which we truly look forward to each year. Not only do we get to unveil new products but we’re able to interact one-on-one with new customers and of course returning customers who have supported us all these years.”
