Chief winemaker Rafael Miranda of Trivento Bodegas y Viñedos of Mendoza, Argentina recently made a visit to Nassau to share information on the winery’s premium selection of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec with industry partners and consumers.

Bristol recently unveiled their affordable premium ranges of Trivento Golden Reserve: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Malbec, as well as the Trivento Reserve: Cabernet – Malbec, Malbec and a Chardonnay. Each have their distinct flavours that are appreciated by wine lovers and connoisseurs around the world. In Europe, Trivento Reserve Malbec has received great success and is the number one sold Malbec in that price point.

When one tastes these new wines, they will be delightfully surprised with the variety of fruit and spicy undertones. “Trivento has been known as a popular sweet wine that was specially blended for the Bahamas marketplace since 2002,” said Miranda. “Now we think it’s time to take the next step in the market and introduce the premium wines of the company.”

Brand manager Freddie Laing stated, “The tourists at the restaurants and hotels are requesting these premium Trivento wines. Between the hotel and restaurant landscape, and increased consumer knowledge in premium wines over the years, I agree that it’s the right timing. The Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec seems to be a favourite of Baha Mar.”

Enrique Dias, beverage manager at the Melia Resort Nassau who hails from Mexico mentioned that Trivento was very popular in his native country and that he was happy to see the upscale wines offered locally.

“The feedback in our guided tasting was very good,” confirmed Miranda. “Those in the hotel and trade markets were asking about the characters of the wines of Mendoza, the regions, and their varieties. They were very surprised about the quality we have in wines because the wines were drinkable and were very gentle in the mouth and feel; they were expecting wines that were more aging and not younger.”

At the British Colonial Hilton Nassau, a guided tasting and dinner was held where their new executive chef, Janeth Rodriquez, created a four course meal which superbly complemented both Trivento’s Premium and Reserve wines. For the starter course, the Golden Reserve Chardonna was paired with fish ceviche, a delicious cold seafood appetizer. The citrus infused white fish synergized well with the fresh and fruity tastes of the Chardonnay.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Chardonnay’s ripe fruit flavours of green apple and white peach with soft notes of apricots, balanced with touches of coconut and white chocolate enhanced the flavours of the baby spinach salad that was served with gorgonzola (Italian cheese), candied walnuts with a cherry vinaigrette dressing.

For the main entrée of braised lamb au jus, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables, the Trivento Golden Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon’s ripe red fruit and dried fruit notes, with hints of black pepper, mint and white chocolate balanced superbly with the taste of oak from the wood of the barrels; all a perfect partnership for this succulent main course.

The culmination of this fine dining experience ended with Chef Rodriquez’s coffee crème brûlée with forest cherry that was paired with the Trivento Golden Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon many considered incredibly remarkable, due to the wine’s ripe red fruit and dried fruit notes, hints of black pepper, mint and white chocolate – the pairing created a well-balanced masterpiece.

Derek smith, the food and beverage manager at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau in Nassau offered his feedback. “I had a great pleasure at being at the launch of the line of Trivento premium wines. I saw a whole new side of what Trivento is. We are pretty much used to sweet. But last evening, we were able to try Chardonnay and Malbec – not sweet but they had some really good bodies to them. In terms of the Malbec, it was very fruity and it almost had a hint of sherry to it.”

Trivento bodegas y Viñedos is a large Argentinian wine company that makes a range of wine from vineyards in Mendoza, from some of the company's most famous grape varieties, including Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Bonarda and Chardonnay. Trivento started in 1996 in Argentina as a Concha y Toro investment with a small winery that expanded to three wineries. Trivento means three winds: the Polar, Zonda and Sudestada winds blow across the sunny and arid land of Mendoza and each wind plays an important role in the way the grapes grow and the vineyard preps the grapes.
