CIBC FirstCaribbean has partnered with young entrepreneur and 2016 Bahamas Icon Rising Star honoree Te’Ja Munnings to bring “Ribbons for Life” to their annual cancer care fundraiser “Walk for the Cure.”

The eighth annual “Walk for the Cure” takes place Saturday, November 9 at the Goodman’s Bay Corporate Center, and as one of this year’s vendors, “Ribbons for Life” will have a vibrant display of colorful ribbons, pins, and decals on sale to support the cause.

Sixteen-year-old Te’Ja Munnings, an 11th grade Queen’s College student, was inspired to create “Ribbons for Life” in 2014 to raise awareness for various types of cancer. “I just wanted to be the change I wanted to see in the world,” said Te’Ja. “So my desire to help those in need along with my love for arts & craft led me to start making ribbons consisting of different colors to represent different types of cancers, and I give a portion of the proceeds to different cancer care organizations.

“I’m excited to bring my ribbons to the ‘Walk for the Cure.’ I’m proud of myself for making it this far, and partnering with CIBC FirstCaribbean is a good way to not only raise funds but also make people aware that ‘Ribbons for Life’ is still here, and still helping others in need.” While “Ribbons for Life” makes its “Walk for the Cure” debut this year, it won’t be Te’Ja’s first run at the event.

“I participated in last year’s ‘Walk for the Cure’ with my mother’s employer, Ernst & Young, and that’s really how this partnership came about,” Te’Ja said. “I wanted to get more involved, so CIBC FirstCaribbean approached my mom and asked if I was interested in being a vendor at the next walk.”

CIBC FirstCaribbean Customer Experience Officer and Walk Manager Kizzanae Arthur said the bank is delighted to be working with Te’Ja. “Ms. Munnings is an example of the bright and inspiring minds our country has to offer, and we’re proud of the significant task she’s undertaken at such a young age to raise cancer awareness. We couldn’t be more excited to have her be a part of our walk this year. It was a natural partnership that we know will bear good results.”

Te’Ja said, “My overall goal is just to continue raising awareness for those with cancer who are in need, and ‘Walk for the Cure’ is something that supports that.”
