BTC is giving its mobile customers additional data. Postpaid customers nationwide will receive unlimited data services until further notice. All prepaid customers with active data plans, will receive double their data entitlement until midnight on Monday, September 23rd. The company continues to provide free voice and data services to customers still residing in Grand Bahama and Abaco until further notice.

BTC is undertaking this initiative as a goodwill effort to compensate for the loss of mobile voice services for several hours on September 18th. Data services were unaffected. The problem has been fully rectified, and BTC will ensure that it insulates itself in the future from the power related issues that were the root cause of the disruption.

BTC CEO, Garry Sinclair said, “We are continuing to experience intermittent power supply issues, which negatively affected one of our Mobile Switching Centers. This resulted in some of our customers being unable to make or receive calls. We have rectified this issue and implemented the necessary redundancy to mitigate against any further issues of this nature.”

Sinclair continued, “Our focus is on restoring mobile services in the populated areas of Grand Bahama and Abaco as a priority. We are also working to restore landline and Internet services for our residential and commercial customers. Once commercial power is reconnected to our sites, fixed service is being restored to both our residential and business customers. Our restoration teams on the ground are making steady progress and we will continue to provide regular updates until this massive recovery project is concluded.”

BTC did not lose any of its services in South Abaco during the hurricane. Mobile services have been restored to the Marsh Harbour airport site. Steady progress is being made throughout the Cays, which are still heavily populated and, in many instances, have already begun to rebuild. Already we’ve fully restored Moore’s Island and Castaway Cay.

BTC continues to provide free WI-FI hotspots to assist displaced residents who are in shelters at Calvary Baptist Church, Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gym and the Fox Hill Community Center in New Providence. In Grand Bahama, we supply hotspots in Grand Lucayan Hotel, Christ the King, St. George’s School, St. John’s Jubilee and Church of the Ascension.

Since September 4th, BTC has been providing free mobile voice and data for all customers still residing in Grand Bahama and Abaco and has suspended billing for all services in these affected islands. BTC’s Business Team is working closely with its clients in the affected areas and are preparing to restore services in the shortest possible time, once power is restored.
