Police said a man was shot and killed on Wednesday night off Cowpen Road.

Family members identified the victim as 20-year-old Ashton Smith.

According to police, shortly before 10 p.m., a group of men was sitting on the stairway of an apartment complex at Martin Close off Cowpen Road, when they were approached by a man armed with a gun, who shot in their direction, injuring one of them before running away.
