BTC proudly delivered on its promise, presenting 2,500 tablets to the Ministry of Education to support its smart schools’ initiative. The company is also delivering on its commitment to provide robust and secure broadband connectivity to one hundred and twenty-seven schools in thirteen islands across the country.

In his remarks at the Public Schools Administrators Conclave on Monday, BTC’s Chief Executive Officer, Garry Sinclair said, “We believe that education is perhaps the single most important investment for a successful future. BTC is injecting almost $3m in capital expenditure to improve internet access and to provide 2,500 tablets. This is indeed an indelible moment in our history, as we extend the same promise of connectivity to every child in these thirteen islands. Access to best-in-class broadband for all students is not just a needle mover, but a fundamental right to empower every student to succeed in a global economy.”

All public-school administrators will also receive a tablet. BTC further demonstrated its commitment to education by partnering with Samsung to provide customized training and learning resources for the MoE’s administrators on how to maximize the use of tablets and smart technology in the classroom. “We are confident that the inclusion of smart technology will definitely enrich the learning experience for students and teachers”, Sinclair continued.

The company is providing broadband connectivity to one hundred and twenty-seven schools in Abaco, San Salvador, Mayaguana, Rum Cay, Exuma, Long Island, Inagua, Berry Island, Bimini, Crooked Island, Cat Island, Andros and New Providence.

BTC continues to be a firm advocate for education. During the last school year, the company outfitted NGM Major School in Long Island with new computers for its lab and gave tablets to over 100 students at Eva Hilton Primary School. The company continues to be a dedicated partner of the Junior Achievement and Technical Cadets organizations.

This connectivity project is the foundation and a catalyst for the Government’s smart schools’ initiative - building a connected and smart nation for the future. BTC and the Ministry of Education signed the agreement in September 2018.
