Severe Weather Warning Update

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued A Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 1:30 PM EDT UNTIL 3:00 PM MONDAY 12TH AUGUST 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR NEW PROVIDENCE AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 1:25 PM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT LINES OF STRONG TO SEVERE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS AND TOWARDS THE WARNING AREAS THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH LOW LEVEL TROUGHING IN THE AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND POSSIBLE LOCALIZED FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
