Severe Weather Warning

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued A Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 9:30 AM EDT until 11:30 AM FRIDAY 09TH AUGUST 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTH AND CENTRAL ELEUTHERA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.


AT 9:28 AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED LINES OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVING TOWARDS THE WARNING AREAS THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROUGHING IN THE AREA.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND POSSIBLE LOCALIZED FLOODING IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
