SEVERE WEATHER WARNING UPDATE

The Bahamas Department of Meterology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for TuesdayTUESDAY 6TH AUGUST 2019 FROM 10:45 AM EDT until 12:45 PM EDT.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE BERRY ISLANDS AND ABACO AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 10:42 AM OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS AND TOWARDS THE WARNING AREAS THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH A MID TO UPPER LEVEL TROUGH.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. FLOODING COULD RESULT IN FLOOD PRONE AND LOW LYING AREAS DURING PROLONGED HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
