A Severe Weather Warning In Effect for Andros, Berry Islands, Abaco, Eleuthera and New Providence.

THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 8:00 AM EDT UNTIL 10:00 AM MONDAY 20TH JULY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS, THE BERRY ISLANDS, ABACO, ELEUTHERA, NEW PROVIDENCE AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 8:00 AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS RELATED TO A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE  OVER THE NORTHWEST AND CENTRAL BAHAMAS MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES AND CAN PRODUCE STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL, AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT AND/OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. SOME LOCALIZED FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS DURING HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
