SEVEN DAY FORECAST FOR THE BAHAMAS from 18th to 24th July 2019

General Situation: A persistent upper level low and trough across the NW Bahamas along with a westward moving tropical wave in the vicinity of the Central Bahamas will enhance convective activity across the archipelago. Meanwhile, a dominant surface high pressure ridge will maintain moderate to strong breezes over the Bahama Islands through Wednesday while upper level low and trough further develop over the area. Several smaller and weaker troughs in the lower levels of the atmosphere will traverse across the Bahamas, amplifying convective activity during the period.

Thursday 18th – Variably cloudy, humid and hot with few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW Bahamas during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night with lingering passing showers or isolated thunderstorms. Maximum temperature 92°F and minimum temperature 79°F. Small craft should continue to exercise caution across the SE Bahamas. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW Bahamas; E’ly at 12 to 18 knots in the Central Bahamas and E’ly at 15 to 20 knots in the SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW Bahamas; 3 to 5 feet in the Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the SE Bahamas.

Friday 19th – Partly to mostly sunny, humid and hot with spotty scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the Bahamas during the daytime, turning partly cloudy to fair at night with lingering showers or an isolated thunderstorm through nightfall. Maximum temperature 91°F and a minimum temperature 78°F. Small craft should exercise caution in the Central Bahamas and an advisory for the SE Bahamas. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW Bahamas; E’ly at 15 to 20 knots in the Central Bahamas and E’ly at 15 to 25 knots in the SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW Bahamas; 4 to 6 feet in the Central Bahamas and 5 to 8 feet in the SE Bahamas.

Saturday 20th – Partly cloudy to cloudy, muggy and very warm with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW and Central Bahamas during the daytime through nightfall. Maximum temperature 91°F and a minimum temperature 79°F. Small craft should continue to exercise caution across the Central and SE Bahamas but in the SE Bahamas pulses to an advisory will occur near Windward Passage at times. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW Bahamas and E’ly at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas, increasing to 15 to 25 knots at times across parts of the SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the Central and SE Bahamas, building to 5 to 8 feet at times in parts of the SE Bahamas near the Windward Passage.

Sunday 21st – Partly cloudy, humid and hot with spotty showers and isolated thunderstorms across the Bahamas during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night time except for few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly in the NW Bahamas. Maximum temperature 90°F and a minimum temperature 80°F. Small craft should continue to exercise caution across the SE Bahamas early. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW and Central Bahamas and E’ly at 15 to 20 knots in the SE Bahamas, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots later that morning. Seas 2 to 4 feet across the NW and Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the SE Bahamas, falling to 2 to 4 feet by late morning.

Monday 22nd – Mostly sunny, humid and hot with spotty scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms early during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night time with few passing showers. Maximum temperature 91°F and a minimum temperature 79°F. Small craft should continue to exercise caution in the SE Bahamas at times. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots early in the NW and Central Bahamas, falling light and variable at times by afternoon in the NW Bahamas and E’ly at 10 to 15 knots in the SE Bahamas, pulsing to 15 to 20 knots at times. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW and Central Bahamas, falling to 1 to 3 feet at times in the NW Bahamas and 2 to 4 feet across the SE Bahamas, building to 4 to 6 feet at times.

Tuesday 23rd – Partly to mostly sunny, humid and hot with few isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly during the daytime. Partly cloudy to cloudy and warm at night with isolated showers or a thunderstorm in the NW Bahamas but fair and warm elsewhere. Maximum temperature 91°F and a minimum temperature 79°F. Small craft should exercise caution in parts of the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds SE’ly at 10 to 15 knots in the NW and parts of the Central Bahamas and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots in parts of the Central and SE Bahamas early, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots in the Central Bahamas later. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW and parts of the Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in parts of the Central and SE Bahamas early, falling to 2 to 4 feet in the Central Bahamas later.

Wednesday 24th – Partly cloudy to cloudy, hot and humid with few isolated showers and isolated thunderstorm during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night time with few scattered showers mainly across the NW Bahamas. Maximum temperature 90°F and minimum temperature 79°F. Small craft should exercise caution in the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds SE’ly at 10 to 15 knots with stronger gust in the NW Bahamas and SE’ly at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots across the Central Bahamas by afternoon. Seas 2 to 4 feet in the NW Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the Central and SE Bahamas, falling to 2 to 4 feet across the Central Bahamas later. Beachgoers and mariners should be vigilant for rough surf and the moderate to high risk of dangerous rip currents mainly along the east coast beaches during the stated advisories. Mariners should exercise caution for gusty winds and higher seas during heavy showers or thunderstorms. Mariners should also be alert for waterspout activity during the daytime across all areas. Residents should take all precautions to remain hydrated and minimize outdoor exposure during peak sunshine periods as heat indices continue to reach the low to the mid-triple-digit range.
