The Bahamas Girl Guides Association’s Headquarters Building Committee was presented with a cheque of $4,000 from funds pledged through the Quarters for Headquarters Programme. The 10 week programme introduced Sunflowers, Brownies, Guides and Rangers in New Providence and on Family Islands Districts to good financial management, a component in the newly introduced Guide “DREAM” Programme.

This financial literacy component encourages girls to follow 4 Steps to meeting a Saving Goal: Set your goal, Devise a plan with a timeline, Execute the plan and Celebrate the achievement of the goal. Piggy bank labels were distributed to girls who used recycled bottles as piggy banks to collect the 40 quarters they pledged. Through the new programme Guides will develop in an intentional way soft skills for maintaining healthy relationships, creativity, critical thinking, global and cultural awareness, civic literacy, communication skills, technology literacy, initiative and leadership.

Ranger Patrinique Saunders of 9th Nassau, St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral made the presentation from Quarters for Headquarters on behalf of over 20 units, leaders and Friends of Guiding who contributed to the donation. President Dr. Ruth Sumner thanked the uniform branch for their kind donation. “The Headquarters Fundraising Committee is pleased with the donation, It will assist with the further development of the project”.

Co-Chairperson, Leja Burrows highlighted the importance of helping girls to exercise good financial management as they honored their pledge and presented the funds collected. She further stated that this will be an annual event as more units in all the districts are encouraged to introduce the girls to the financial literacy through this fund raising programme. The new Girl Guides Headquarters is located on West Bay Street. The funds would assist with the interior of the building. The girls are congratulated on exercising good financial management as they celebrate achieving their goal.
