THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FROM 7:45 AM EDT UNTIL

9:45 AM FRIDAY 12TH JULY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR

BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, NORTH ABACO AND THEIR ADJACENT

WATERS WHILE A WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS, NEW

PROVIDENCE AND THE BERRY ISLANDS.

AT 7:40 AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE

IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND

THUNDERSTORMS RELATED TO AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER

THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE

MENTIONED AREAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT

TIMES AND CAN PRODUCE STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS

LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL, AND POSSIBLE

WATERSPOUT AND/OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY. SOME LOCALIZED

FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE

AREAS DURING HEAVY DOWNPOURS.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR

AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS

AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

BOATERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREAS SHOULD

MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND BE READY TO TAKE

QUICK ACTION SHOULD CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN

WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
