DQ’s 6th Annual Miracle Treat Day to Support Children with Sickle Cell Disease
Dairy Queen is calling all angels to help make miracles for children with Sickle Cell Disease. On Thursday, July 25, Miracle Treat Day, DQ will donate $2 from every blizzard treat sold to The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association.
“Three hundred thousand children worldwide are born with sickle cell disease every year, and fifty percent of them die by the age of five,” stated Kayla Smith-Mortimer, President of The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association. “Sickle cell is a silent killer, which is why so many people are not aware of not only how pervasive the disease is in our community, but how painful it is for those living with it.”
The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association advocates for continued research for a cure for sickle cell disease, while working to enhance the quality of healthcare, life, and services for individuals and families affected by this disease.
“We are humbly appealing to corporate Bahamas and the community at large to support Miracle Treat Day. So many children have lost mothers to sickle cell disease, but with everyone’s help, we can change lives. We are so grateful that DQ has chosen to benefit our cause this year,” stated Mrs. Smith-Mortimer.
Launched locally in 2014, Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day has raised more than $43,000 for children affected by cancer, diabetes, autism, Down syndrome, and hearing impairment.
This year, for the first time, DQ will offer a free family fun day at the Mall at Marathon location from 3 pm to 7 pm on July 25. The Family Fun Day, sponsored by El Shaddai Party Rentals, Just Play, The Party Mart and Fiesta Party Rentals and Supplies will feature bouncing castles, face painters, games and more!
While DQ and The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association are urging everyone to come out on Miracle Treat Day and support by purchasing blizzards and enjoying the family fun day, companies and individuals can start helping right now.
Persons may purchase special Miracle Treat Day blizzard coupons at any DQ location or online at www.miracletreatday242.com. Two dollars from every coupon purchase will be donated to the Bahamas Sickle Cell Association. These coupons will be valid August 31, 2019.
“We see the tremendous need in the sickle cell community and are proud to do our part to help bring happiness to children battling this disease,” stated DQ’s Derek Osborne.
Patrons may participate in Miracle Treat Day in three ways - purchase a special pre-sold blizzard coupon, pre-order blizzards that can be collected on Miracle Treat Day or visit any DQ store on Miracle Treat Day and purchase blizzards.
All six DQ locations in New Providence will participate – Southwest Plaza, Seagrapes Plaza, Cable Beach, Harbour Bay, The Mall at Marathon and the newest location, BC Hilton.
Blizzard costs range from $4.69 for a mini, $5.89 for a small, $6.79 for a medium and $7.59 for a large. Small or large donations in cash or by cheque can also be made at all DQ stores.
