Severe Weather Warning-Andros, New Providence and Adjacent Waters

The Bahamas Department of Meteoroloyg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 9:00AM EDT UNTIL 11:00AM THURSDAY, 11TH JULY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS, NEW PROVIDENCE AND ITS ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 8:55AM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING TOWARDS AND OVER THE MENTIONED AREA DUE TO AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES AND CAN PRODUCE STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL, AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT AND/OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

SOME LOCALIZED FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS DURING HEAVY DOWNPOURS. BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
