The government’s 2019/2020 budget was yesterday passed in the Senate.

As he gave his contribution to the budget debate, Senator Fred Mitchell castigated the prolonged process of debating and passing the budget, suggesting that the historical process is unnecessary.

Attorney General Carl Bethel, who closed the budget debate, congratulated all the senators on the quality of their presentations and “the thought [you] put in, the work, the effort, the heart that you poured into this debate”.

He added, “So much more important than the mere words is the heart behind it that counts.”

Senate was concluded sine die.
