Severe Weather Warning Update

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 4:30 PM EDT until 6:30 PM FRIDAY 14TH JUNE 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BERRY ISLANDS, NORTH AND CENTRAL ANDROS AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 4:25 PM LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT A LINE AND CLUSTERS OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH DEEP LAYERED TROUGHING MOVING TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE MENTIONED ISLANDS.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND FLOODING, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
