Ok this is the part of the healthier lifestyle everyone loves. Whether you workout at the gym, with a coach at a random location or at home watching & following moves on a workout video. Everyone tends to be more drawn to the 20% fitness aspect of their healthy journey. For most (at least those who are actually trying) it seems so easy. Especially when grammy goes for a walk and calls it her exercise, or doing house or yard work it seems so easy for them. People consider walking to the bus stop exercise, well guess what??? It is!!!

Whenever you get your body to do movements that burns which is not a daily norm that is considered a form of exercise. Yes! Sex is a form of exercise, but how come? Because you burn calories while “doin’ it” but that’s another topic for another day.

Back to what I was saying about walking to the bus stop. Do you think you burn more calories sitting and driving for 2 miles or walking to a nearby destination which is half a mile away? Most definitely it will be the walking.

Now ask yourself this, what do you think burns more calories, walking a mile or running a half mile? If you choose running then once again you would be correct.

Why? Because your pushing your body to do something that you don’t daily and when you running you will have a higher heart rate than if you were walking. So, you blood is pumping faster, oxygen is used more, you become more sweaty, yaddi yadda yaddi yadda. So your body burns more calories than if you were to walk or sit and do nothing. In short:

“There’s Levels to this”

Ok all this talk about burning calories, WHAT ARE CALORIES THO?

Calories is a name to which energy is measured by. Just like a car needs gas to run, you need calories to run your body. Calories in your food is used as energy to fuel you. Too much calories will make you gain weight. Therefore its important that if you want to lose weight or even maintain the weight that you’re at, you ought to burn more calories through exercise, than the calories you eat in a day.

GET IT? GOT IT? GOOD!!! I hope y’all noticed now the nutrition (80%) still slipped in this fitness post.

Anyways depending on what you want your body to look like, different exercises assist with you bodily goals. Such as:

CARDIO: usually an exercises that speeds up your heart rate such as:
*Running or jogging
*Aerobics
*Swimming or cycling (yes riding your bicycle)
*Zumba or Dancing.
*Or even talking the stairs at work instead of the elevator.

Weight Or Strength Training: this assist with the developing of muscles

  • Weight lifting (pumping iron, or heavy items around the home)
  • Muscle targeting exercises (e.g. squats – for those who want boongey)
  • Push ups, pull ups, (exercises which you use your own body weight)

To make it a lot simpler Cardio helps you to burn fat and slim down.

Weight Training helps you to develop definition in the muscles and/or help you build muscles.

So which is better? BOTH.

If you just want to slim down and be all skinny mini then go ahead and jog your butt off. However if it is your goal to have a nice firm or ripped body, you will have to include weight training. Basically it depends on what you want for yourself. With the combination of both styles of exercise you can mold your body to however you dreamt it to be. With consuming the proper nutrition of course.
