With at least one gas station moving towards self service and several other operators toying with the idea, the jobs of gas pump attendants could be at risk, according to Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association (BPRA) representative Oswald Moore.
While the move toward self service gas stations could increase profits for operators, it would likely fuel crime, said Moore.
He said while the association does not formally support self service, some retailers are looking at that option in order to keep their businesses afloat.
“When the U.S. went to self service, they had the majority of their people working with credit cards,” Moore said.
