Local golf pros are gearing up for The Bahamas Professional Golf Tour (BPGT) season, which officially begins on Friday, May 31st, at 2:30 pm at the Royal Blue Golf Club at Baha Mar Resort.

The success of the inaugural tour, was made possible by the phenomenal support of event partners like Bahamas Waste Limited, and this year the company has assumed a greater role by becoming one of the BPGT’s title sponsors.

Event organizers are delighted to announce that the first tournament of the series will be known as the BPGT Bahamas Waste Open.

BPGT Founder and Director, Riccardo Davis, is appreciative of Bahamas Waste’s support for a second year.

“The Bahamas Professional Golf Tour is an event that was created for local professional and amateurs golf enthusiasts, wishing to play at a professional tournament level,” he noted.

“The competition was fierce last year. Well-known local pros Jim Duncombe, Lemon Gorospe, Greg Maycock and Jimmy Delancey of Grand Bahama, participated in the BPGT golf series last year.

In 2018, we also attracted international players like David Harris from Houston, Texas, who was the 1st place finisher in the BPGT Pro Division in May and June of 2018. So, we expect greater support from the golf community this year.”

Organizers are expecting more than 40 golfers to tee off in next month’s tournament. Managing Director of Bahamas Waste Ltd., Francisco “Franny” de Cardenas, is proud to contribute to the first BPGT Golf Classics for 2019, giving local golfers an opportunity to develop their game at home.

“This is our first time being title sponsor for a golf tournament,” noted de Cardenas. “We congratulate Riccardo on his success in organizing this event, his passion for the game is commendable and we want to support Bahamians exceling in their sport.”

As the sport of golf continues to grow in The Bahamas, Davis is hopeful that more companies will follow the example set by Bahamas Waste, and support the efforts of the BPGT.

The Bahamas Professional Golf Tour hosts monthly tournaments, and opportunities for corporate Bahamas to support future tournaments through sponsorships are still available.

“I am encouraged by the level of support Franny and his team have given to the BPGT, as he is fully aware of the challenges faced by professional golfers in our country,” said Davis.

“We believe more companies will join Bahamas Waste as we move forward, our aim is to elevate professional golf in The Bahamas to new levels. I look forward to forging more partnerships with corporate Bahamas.”

The BPGT Bahamas Waste Open will cap off with a cocktail reception and awards ceremony at 7pm. The victorious first-place finisher will be awarded a grand cash prize of $2,000.00, in addition to an all-inclusive 3-nights stay at Superclubs Breezes Bahamas, along with other great trophies and prizes. Professional runners up will also receive cash prizes and awards.

Amateurs will be awarded trophies and other great prizes. For more information, visit Bahamas Professional Golf Tour Facebook page, www.facebook.com/bpgt1, or their website, www.bpgt.org or email bahamasprofessionalgolftour@gmail.com.
