The Medical Association of the Bahamas has invited the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Surgeon Dr. Alex Fokin, and Pediatric Otolaryngologist Dr. Sweeti Shah, from the South Florida Institution Memorial Healthcare System to the MAB Scientific Conference 2019, taking place at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Convention Center from March 13 – 15.
Since 1970 The Medical Association of the Bahamas has been hosting the MAB Scientific Conference, with the solid commitment of improve, support and promote high-quality health standards in the island of Bahamas. This year, the conference theme will be “Pursuing your passion, medicine and beyond”.
Dr. Alex Fokin will be presenting on common shoulder ailments and evidence-based treatment that have been helping his patients to improve their quality of life. Tendon and ligament injuries are common in both high-functioning athletes and weekend warriors, which makes orthopaedic sports medicine a challenging yet exciting field.
Dr. Fokin will review a wide spectrum of orthopaedic shoulder ailments ranging from simple shoulder bursitis and calcific tendonitis to rotator cuff and complex labral injuries, chronic shoulder instability as well as shoulder osteoarthritis.

On the other hand, Dr. Sweeti Shah, who is an otolaryngologist at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, part of Memorial Healthcare System, will be presenting about pediatric neck masses with focus on airway involvement, and the importance of imaging in order to do the correct diagnose and treatments.
According to the World Health Organization, pediatric neck masses are a frequent consultation in hospitals around the globe. Most of the patients can be classified in the benign side, but infants with malignant neck masses can find themselves in a very dangerous situation. The importance of Dr. Shah’s lecture is to share the practices that have being helping her patients to overcome this difficult condition.
