Severe Weather Warning Update

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Watch from 10:25 AM EDT until 12:25 PM MONDAY 28TH JANUARY 2019.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING CONTINUES FOR EXUMA AND ITS CAYS AND A WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR CAT ISLAND ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 10:25 AM OBSERVATION, RADAR, LIGHTNING DETECTOR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING ACROSS EXUMA AND TOWARDS CAT ISLAND.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS CAN BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES, CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

BOATERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE QUICK ACTION WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
