The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning from 10:55 PM EST THURSDAY 20TH DECEMBER 2018 until 2:00 AM EST FRIDAY 21ST DECEMBER 2018.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS OF BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 10:45 PM EST, LIGHTNING DETECTOR, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTED A LINE OF HEAVY SHOWERS AND STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN APPROACHING COLD THAT IS IN PRESENTLY IN THE VICINITY OF THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE.

SOME OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD ALREADY BE IN PORT AS THERE IS A GALE WARNING IN EFFECT.

MEANWHILE RESIDENTS IN THE WARNING AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
