Bahamas and Barbados Tie for CIBC FirstCaribbean's 'Branch of The Year'

CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank’s Governor’s Harbour branch (Bahamas) and Sheraton branch (Barbados) have for the first time tied for the “Joy Callender Branch of the Year Award,” bolstering the longstanding competitively friendly relationship between two of the financial institution’s Caribbean operations.

The award was named after former CIBC FirstCaribbean Associate Director Joy Callender, who died from cancer in 2017, because, as the bank noted, she was the only employee ever “to have hoisted the ‘Branch of the Year’ trophy twice, in two different jurisdictions.”

Director of Retail Banking Mark St. Hill applauded the bank’s Retail team, saying, “It has been an incredibly difficult task to select a ‘Branch of the Year,’ considering the significant effort of both our Bahamas and Barbados Business businesses.

“I am so proud to be the leader of Team Retail.

Their response to our sales challenges and the care and concern they put into creating the right financing packages for our clients is nothing short of amazing.

I look forward to another successful year together,” St. Hill said.

“We wish to sincerely thank the 523 Retail professionals in these countries - and in particular the nine champions based at the Governor’s Harbour branch in The Bahamas and the 20 at the Sheraton branch in Barbados,” he added.

Both The Bahamas and Barbados were named “Best Bank of the Year” and “Best Retail Bank” in their respective countries in 2017 by The Banker Magazine and Global Banking and Finance Magazine respectively.

For the first time in history, CIBC FirstCaribbean awarded not one but two of its branches the distinction of “Joy Callender Branch of the Year.” They are the Governor’s Harbour branch (Bahamas) and the Sheraton branch (Barbados).
