Seven Day Forecast for The Bahamas-December 17-23, 2018

General Situation: A cold front across the Central Bahamas will slowly move across the SE Bahamas this evening, then weaken before shifting back northward as a warm front late Wednesday. A weak high pressure ridge will move across the area before a strong low pressure system deepens over the Southeast United States on Thursday and Friday morning respectively. The cold front will continue to move south-eastwards through the Central and SE Bahamas as a trailing troughs graze the NW Bahamas Saturday through Sunday.

Monday 17th – Variable cloudiness and warm with few scattered showers or a possible thunderstorm mainly in the vicinity of the frontal boundary today through tonight. Maximum temperature 79°F and minimum temperature 66°F. Winds W to N’ly at 10 to 15 knots in the NW and Central Bahamas and variable at 10 knots or less across the SE Bahamas. Seas 4 to 6 feet over the ocean in the NW and Central Bahamas and 1 to 3 feet in SE Bahamas.

Tuesday 18th – Variable cloudiness and warm with few lingering showers or a possible thunderstorm in or near the frontal boundary, generally clearing across the SE Bahamas later. Maximum temperature 81°F and minimum temperature 70°F. Winds N to NE at 10 to 15 knots , falling light and variable at times in the NW and Central Bahamas and variable at 10 knots or less in the SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet over the NW and Central Bahamas and 1 to 3 feet in the SE Bahamas.

Wednesday 19th
– Partly cloudy and warm with a few isolated showers during the day but increasing clouds and scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms at night over the NW Bahamas. Maximum temperature 83°F and minimum temperature 72°F. Winds ENE to ESE at 10 knots or less but gusty at times over all areas and seas 1 to 3 feet over the entire Bahamas but higher in gusts.

Thursday 20th
– Partly cloudy, breezy and warm with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW Bahamas during the daytime through nightfall. Mostly sunny, breezy and warm elsewhere, turning fair and mild at night. Maximum temperature 82°F and minimum temperature 71°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the entire Bahamas and an advisory will affect the NW Bahamas by nightfall. Winds SE to S at 15 to 20 knots across the entire Bahamas, but turning S to SW at 20 to 25 knots with higher gusts across the NW Bahamas at night. Seas 4 to 7 feet over the entire Bahamas, but building to 7 to 10 feet across the NW Bahamas at night.

Friday 21st – Partly to mostly cloudy and windy with scattered showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe at times across the NW Bahamas, generally clearing behind the front at night. Partly to mostly sunny, warm and breezy at times across the Central and SE Bahamas, turning cloudy to overcast with increasing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms by night time. Maximum temperature 81°F and minimum temperature 67°F. Small craft should remain in port in the NW Bahamas and a small craft advisory is in effect for the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds S to SW at 20 to 30 knots with gusts to gale force at times across the NW Bahamas and SSE to SSW at 15 to 20 knots mainly across the Central Bahamas with stronger gusts. Seas 7 to 10 feet over the NW Bahamas but higher in gusts and 4 to 7 feet across the Central and SE Bahamas but higher in gusts.

Saturday 22nd – Partly cloudy to fair skies, windy and mild with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly over the NW and SE Bahamas. Maximum temperature 75° and minimum temperature 62°F. Small craft advisory across the NW and Central Bahamas and a caution for the SE Bahamas. Winds W to NW at 15 to 25 knots in the NW and Central Bahamas, falling to 10 to 15 knots by nightfall and NW to N at 15 to 20 knots in the SE Bahamas, falling to 10 to 15 knots by nightfall. Seas 5 to 8 feet over the ocean in the NW and Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the SE Bahamas, falling to 2 to 4 feet over all areas by night time..

Sunday 23rd – Partly sunny and warm with the slight chance of a shower mainly in the SE Bahamas, turning fair and cool at night. Maximum temperature 76°F and minimum temperature 61°F. Winds N to NE at 10 knots or less in the NW Bahamas and NE’ly at 10 to 15 knots in t he Central and SE Bahamas, but increasing to 15 to 20 knots later in the SE Bahamas. Seas 3 feet or less across the NW Bahamas and 2 to 4 feet in the Central and SE Bahamas, building to 4 to 6 feet later in the SE Bahamas.

Beachgoers and mariners should exercise caution due to rough surf and the high risk of rip currents along the northern and eastern shorelines during stated advisories.
