University of The Bahamas’ Government and Public Policy Institute (GPPI) will hold a first of its kind policy forum featuring four former Central Bank of The Bahamas Governors.
The event, which will be held on Tuesday, 20th November at 7:00 p.m. in the Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre Auditorium will focus on the topic ‘The Past, Present and Future of Monetary and Fiscal Policy.’
Monetary and Fiscal policy dominate concerns for all Bahamians as both impact the level of taxation Bahamians face, the degree of government's deficit spending, the country's national indebtedness and the extent to which Bahamians have the purchasing power to afford, maintain and improve their standard of living. “Having clear, analytical discourse through people highly experienced in these matters allows GPPI to educate and expand the public's knowledge on such critical issues,” explains Mr. Zhivargo Laing, Senior Fellow and Executive Director of the Government and Public Policy Institute.
Former Governors Sir William Allen, Mr. Julian Francis, Mr. James Smith and Mrs. Wendy Craigg will serve on the panel of experts to expand on the topic during the forum moderated by Laing.
Additionally, Grand Bahamians will have the opportunity to view the forum via interactive live streaming at the Pelican Bay Hotel, Coral Reef Room in Freeport.
The GPPI is an institute of University of The Bahamas with highly trained and motivated professionals pursuing public policy discourse, research and training to impact significantly the good governance, prosperity and sustainable development of The Bahamas and the Caribbean.
The institute offers services in the research, design and implementation of public policy in The Bahamas and abroad.
The GPPI growing team includes Executive Director, Zhivargo Laing, Policy Assistant Jeannie Gibson, Administrative Assistant Marcia Smith and the resources of more than 200 University of The Bahamas faculty members.
