In keeping with the Government of the Bahamas’ mandate to increase the amount of Bahamians employed in the Maritime Sector, the Ministry of Labour, in conjunction with other industry partners, organized a Job Recruiting Programme (JRP) with Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the National Training Agency Building, Gladstone Road.

As a follow up from the recent visit by the National Committee on Skills, Industry & Training on board the Carnival Liberty Cruise Ship in August 2018 the Ministry of Labour organized the job recruitment visit by Carnival Cruise Line to interview Bahamian jobseekers interested in filling sixty-five (65) vacancies as follows:

25 Bar Waiters
15 Assistant Waiters
10 Trainee Cooks
15 Deck Hands

In accordance with the Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) Regulations 2012, the role of the Ministry of Labour, in conjunction with the two (2) registered Seafarer Recruitment & Placement Services Agencies, was to identify a pool of Bahamians to be interviewed and assist the Carnival Team in the recruiting process. The two registered Seafarer Recruitment & Placement Services Agencies which took part were AquaMarine, and Campbell's Shipping.

The interview process included the submission of resumes, and the completion and submission of an online form by each jobseeker. The Carnival Team conducting the interviews included Mr. Ashley Spencer, Sr. Manager of Talent Acquisition and Mr. Edward Allen, VP of Beverage & Guest Services.

At the conclusion of the visit, Carnival representatives advised Ministry of Labour Officials that they were very pleased with the quality of the jobseekers interviewed and were confident that Carnival would be able to identify Bahamians to fill the 65 vacancies. Carnival further advised that the Company will work with the two participating Seafarer Recruitment & Placement Services Agencies to ensure that the successful candidates that meet the criteria and standards of Carnival will be employed in the first quarter of 2019.

The Ministry of Labour wishes to inform the public that positions are still available and interested job seekers can contact AquaMarine or Campbell’s Shipping.
