Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest encouraged Bahamians, especially young Bahamians, to make use of advisors within the Small Business Development Centre to help them get their new innovative and creative entrepreneurial ideas off the ground.

“What I am hoping we will spur through the Development Centre is a new cadre of risk takers, people who have ideas in their minds based on their experiences, their exposure, who will come to this Business Development Centre and sit down with our advisors and mentors and create, explore and research their ideas,” DPM Turnquest explained at the ‘Millionaires’ Mile Fireside Chat,’ at the University of The Bahamas, September 19, 2018.

The theme of the discussion was, “The Bahamian Economy – Re-Imagined.”

He said, “Hopefully, we will find new ideas about how to use our natural resources, whether its sand, seaweed, bush medicine – whatever it is, but we know just based on anecdotal evidence and some science that The Bahamas is full of natural resources, yet untapped, that if we were to tap can not only be used as domestic product but can be exported.”

DPM Turnquest said the government is putting $5 million into the centre this year, which is a risk that that he is willing to take on behalf of the Bahamian people.

The DPM noted that seven out of 10 of the projects may fail, but that future young entrepreneurs should not to be afraid of failure.

He said someone out there will be impressed with their efforts to the point where they bring them onboard their own businesses/projects and give them a chance to prove themselves.
