Weather Forecast for The Bahamas September 18-22, 2018

General Situation: Deep-layered low pressure system north of the Greater Antilles Islands with ta rough across the SE Bahamas is interacting with the remnant moisture of Isaac near Jamaica to produce some unsettled weather across the area. Moisture and trough will gradually shift westward and northeastward this week as it moves pockets of unsettled weather through the Central and SE Bahamas through Wednesday. A weak upper level trough will move across the NW Bahamas from the northeast, then across the Central Bahamas before shifting into the eastern Gulf of Mexico as an upper level low. As the weekend approaches a broad surface high pressure system from the eastern United States will build across the area with the usual summer-type conditions expected.

Tuesday 18th – Partly cloudy, hot, and humid with lingering scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the SE Bahamas through nightfall, but mostly sunny, hot and steamy elsewhere. Mostly fair and warm at night with the chance of a shower or two. Maximum temperature of 90°F and minimum temperature of 78°F. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW and Central Bahamas, falling light and variable at times and ESE to SSE at 10 to 15 knots in the SE Bahamas, falling light and variable at times. Seas 2 to 4 feet over the ocean for all areas, falling to 1 to 3 feet at times.

Wednesday 19th – Partly cloudy, humid and hot with few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly across the Central and SE Bahamas through nightfall. Maximum temperature of 90°F and minimum temperature of 79°F. Winds SSE to SSW at 10 to 15 knots, falling light and variable at times across all areas. Ses 2 to 4 feet over the ocean across the entire Bahamas, falling to 1 to 3 feet at times.

Thursday 20th – Mostly sunny, humid and hot across the NW Bahamas, turning fair and warm at night but partly cloudy and hot with few scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms mainly across the Central and SE Bahamas during the daytime through nightfall. Maximum temperature of 91°F and minimum temperature of 78°F. Winds E to SE at 10 knots or less across the NW and Central Bahamas and E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas, but gusty at times. Seas 1 to 3 feet in the NW and Central Bahamas and 2 to 4 feet in the SE Bahamas, but higher in gusts.

Friday 21st – Partly to mostly sunny, hot and steamy with some scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW Bahamas during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night with few lingering showers mainly across the NW Bahamas. Maximum temperature of 91°F and minimum temperature of 78°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the SE Bahamas. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots in the NW and Central Bahamas and E’ly at 15 to 20 knots across the SE Bahamas with higher gusts. Seas 2 to 4 feet across NW and Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet over the SE Bahamas, but higher in gusts.

Saturday 22nd – Partly to mostly sunny, hot and humid with few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorm mainly in the NW Bahamas. Partly cloudy to fair skies and warm at night with few scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms in the NW and Central Bahamas. Maximum temperature of 91°F and minimum temperature of 78°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the SE Bahamas early. Winds E to SE at 10 to 15 knots across the NW and Central Bahamas and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots at first in the SE Bahamas, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots by early afternoon. Seas 2 to 4 feet across the NW and Central Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet across the SE Bahamas early, but falling to 2 to 4 feet by afternoon.

Sunday 23rd – Partly to mostly sunny, hot and humid with some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorm during the daytime. Partly cloudy to fair at night with few scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms. Maximum temperature of 91°F and minimum temperature of 77°F. Winds E’ly at 10 to 15 knots across the entire Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet across the entire Bahamas.

Beachgoers and Mariners should exercise extreme caution due to the risk of large swells and dangerous rip currents along the eastern shorelines for the entire forecast period. Boaters and Beachgoers should be alert for possible waterspout activity and take all necessary precautions to protect life and property. Residents should be alert for the risk of localized flooding during heavy downpours and prolonged rainfall events. Residents and Beachgoers should keep hydrated and avoid outdoors or protect themselves during the hottest parts of the day as these periods are when high heat indices occur during the summer time.
