Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd partnered with the Kiwanis Club and the Hon. Carlton Bowleg, Member of Parliament for North Andros and the Berry Islands (right) to bring school supplies to students of the R.N. Gomez All-Age School on Friday, August 17.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL) teamed up with civic and charitable organizations equipping students with the tools they need for a successful start to a new school year.
?If we can do good work on behalf of our young people then as a company we?re better off for it,? said RCL?s vice president of government relations for the Americas, Russell Benford.
With Nassau its first and still most popular destination out of 540 ports worldwide, the ties between The Bahamas and the global cruise vacation company are binding. Twenty-five of RCL?s vessels are registered in The Bahamas further anchoring the relationship between this destination and a vital industry tasked with bringing millions of visitors to The Bahamas annually.
Five hundred school bags, 2,000 notebooks and 4,000 pencils and pens later, children from Adelaide to the Berry Islands are better prepared to start the school year off right.
In Great Harbour Cay, RCL collaborated with the Kiwanis Club and the Hon. Carlton Bowleg, the Member of Parliament for North Andros and the Berry Islands and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources in donating the schools supplies to an August 17jamboree. A fitting place to start its back-to-school initiative, since neighboring island, RCL?s CocoCay was the company?s first private island destination when it was launched as such forty years ago.
Other giveaways quickly followed via community partnerships with the Adelaide constituency (August 23), the Children?s Emergency Hostel (August 24) and more than 20 schools through a back-to-school event held in conjunction with the Bahamas Feeding Network (August 26). During that event, families got clothing, food and the school supplies.
We saw students in need of back-to-school supplies. We just jumped in and wanted to help. This is our community as well,? said Benford.
In 2017, RCL staff at CocoCay made a back-to-school donation to students of R.N. Gomez All-Age School.
