As summer break ends, local beauty franchise Tresor Rare Bahamas is assisting unlikely students go back-to-school after many years on break, with a $2,500 donation to Zonta Club of New Providence’s efforts to help unemployed women pursue higher education.
It’s a decision made after the two organizations teamed up this summer for ZCNP’s annual Workforce Readiness Program (WRP) for unemployed women. The cause is one that inspired the beauty giant to pledge their support to the three-week initiative, which ended with a scholarship to the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute, and several certification courses awarded to some of the 18-women enrolled in this year’s program.
“We are committed to uplifting the community in everyway that we can,” said Managing Director Latetia Scott-Sands. “Our stores are not only focused on creating a strong business where Bahamians are able to thrive but to also build a better world and assist in building a better Bahamas wherever we can lend assistance. “It’s very important in our long term goals that these ingredients which make both our brand and community strong be linked together in a recipe for success so that we continue to grow here in The Bahamas in all aspects.”
During the month-long July program at BTVI the selected participants were exposed to a blended style of learning, including practicum, on the job training as well as formal presentations by industry experts. Tresor’s top executives hosted a beauty session during the program, teaching the ladies about skin care and employment opportunities at the company. It’s a lesson that the 2018 scholarship recipient Nadia Moss felt empowered her and her fellow classmates even further.
“Their presentation made us feel more confident, empowered and motivated to put our best foot forward,” she said. “It’s awesome to know that they support not only helping out with outer beauty, but inner beauty as well.
“They are working towards the whole of boosting self confidence and beauty, putting me in a position of empowerment that I am so grateful for.”
Tresor Rare’s commitment also follows that of Mrs. Patricia Minnis, wife of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Hubert Minnis, who – at the WRP closing - pledged her support as well as the support of the newly formed Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister to the program and to the empowerment of women in The Bahamas.
