The Bahamas Football Association is conducting its Primary Schools Grassroots Refresher Course for primary school teachers across New Providence.

The training takes place at the BFA’s Soccer facility, the Roscow AL Davies Field as well as at the NSA facilities at the Thomas Robinson Stadium.

The course runs from 9am until 1 pm.

The course attracts primary school teachers from twenty four schools with at least two teachers per school.

The course is a very important program for the BFA as it supports the Federation’s commitment to international standards as it relates to the introduction of football to kids falling into the grass roots category ( 12-under).

The program reinforces the need to understand that “the game is the teacher. Let them play” as children learn the game by playing and experimenting at this age.

In the program the teachers are given the tools to facilitate that learning and the ability to improve their own knowledge to the point where they can correct technical issues early in the player’s development.

This year the BFA is getting support on this initiative as assist in the program will be a FIFA and CONCACAF instructors. “We hope

the instructors down to help run the course will engender enough interest to also promote the CONCACAF Next Play Initiative,” said Garry Markham, Technical Director at Bahamas Football Association.

According to Mrs. Margaret Albury, head physical education coach at Eva Hilton primary school, “this program allows us to obtain the knowledge on how to deliver coaching techniques and the practical side allows us to correct any technical issues we see in the kids. We look forward to this program!”
