Salvation Army School for Blind & Visually Impaired Students-Awarded Scholarship Space Camp

Three, two, one blast off will be the experience for Akemi Thompson and Jaden Burrows students of the Salvation Army Erin Gilmour School For Blind. 


Akemi Thompson and Jaden Burrows are recipients of the Lighthouse Visions Scholarship granting them attendance to the Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCIVIS).

SCIVIS is a weeklong camp from Saturday Sept. 29 – Thursday Oct. 4, 2018 at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Akemi and Jaden would join students from Australia, Belgium, Canada Costa Rica, Germany, Greece, Ireland, India, Israel, New Zealand, Romi, St Lucia and the United States.

Akemi and Jaden will have the opportunity to experience real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics adapted for visually impaired children.

The camp is also an opportunity of cultural exchange and learning which is supported by chaperons and coordinated by teachers of the visually impaired.

Ms. Coakley said “Akemi and Jaden are happy about the opportunity to interact with other students like them at Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students.
