Stimulating and Thought Provoking ICT Conference Begins in Panama

CANTO’s 34th Annual Conference and Trade Exhibition was off to a fantastic start with a stellar cast of regional ministers and international stakeholders at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Panama. The Conference runs from July 22nd to 25th 2018.

The Conference opening ceremony and speakers all pointed to the event being set to deliver “stimulating and thought-provoking conference sessions and a meaningful array of products and services on the exhibition floor”. These were some of the sentiments expressed by the Secretary General Ms.Teresa Wankin, as she welcomed all.

The theme for this year’s Conference “Guiding Digital Adoption to Lead the Global Market” and the opening ceremony was addressed by Euan Fannell, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, CWC the Conference’s Headline Sponsor; Ajit Pai, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and CANTO’s Chairman - Julian Wilkins.

Mr. Julian Wilkins welcomed delegates to the event and stressed that “collaboration and cooperation with key stakeholders are instrumental in building a sustainable and profitable industry”; which is unique to CANTO. This uniqueness is reflected in the agenda of CANTO 2018 agenda.

The winner of the annual video competition to promote the use of digital technology among youths - Jamal Witty, from the University of Belize with his winning video - How Can I Enable the Positive Use of Artificial Intelligence for All?, was also premiered at the opening ceremony.

As is synonymous with CANTO, the event also featured a cultural performance by Ballet Folklorico de Panama sponsored by the Panama Tourism Authority.

Attendees were then able to view the range of exhibits while they also engage in cocktails and networking. The Conference continues tomorrow with the first item on the agenda being the Ministerial Breakfast which will include a keynote delivered by Inge Smidts, CEO, C & W Communications.
