The Rotary Club of East Nassau (RCEN) recently met with Minister of Environment and Housing Romauld Ferreira to discuss how the club could support the ministry’s environmental initiatives. In the discussion, led by Rotary International President Elect Barry Rassin and RCEN President Hope Sealey, the key projects identified were the mangrove restoration project and the ministry’s recently announced intention to ban single-use plastic by 2020.

RCEN presented the Minister with its reusable bags which were produced to raise environmental awareness. The proceeds from the sale of the bags will be used to further club’s eco-friendly activities.

Rotary Assistant District Governors Mario Smith and Bryan Knowles participated in the conversation along with Janice Miller, permanent secretary and Kendria Ferguson, environmental officer at the Ministry.

Also present were RCEN members Geoff Andrews, Adrian White, Michele Moodie, Francisco deCardenas, Corinne Laville and Royann Dean, the club’s Green committee coordinator.

“The Rotary Club of East Nassau is proud to partner with the Ministry of Environment and Housing. We believe that Minister Ferreira’s initiatives can make a big difference in preserving the delicate ecosystem and natural beauty of The Bahamas for future generations,” said Mrs. Sealey.
