Officially declaring The Bahamas, the ‘Silicone Isles of the World’ PM Dr. Hon. Hubert Minnis opened the Bahamas Blockchain & Cryptocurrency conference at the Grand Lucayan Hotel on Grand Bahama Island.

To a packed room of government officials, investors, crypto-industry professionals and interested individuals the Prime Minister detailed the advantages of Grand Bahama Island as a breeding ground for innovative ideas and new technologies.

For the next few days, Grand Bahama Island will serve as the backdrop for the series of keynotes and panel discussions focusing on blockchain and crypto-assets as officials plot the way forward.

“In order to build a thriving technology sector that will benefit our country’s economy in a meaningful way several key components must be in place” explained Prime Minister Minnis.

“These include policies that encourage innovation, a motivated and educated workforce with access to higher education and a flexible immigration policy” he said.

The execution of the conference is one of several steps being taken by the government to encourage new technologies to set up shop on Grand Bahama.

Focusing on key parameters such as the need for legislative adjustments, capital funding and global investment, the launch of the conference is further in line with an agenda set by the Minnis administration to promote the city of Freeport as a digital hub, catering to new and innovative technical markets.

“This is truly a defining moment for the future of the Grand Bahama Economy,” said Minister of Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson.

“The government is pleased to be spearheading this initiative and paving the way for a real digital revolution which will undoubtedly impact the lives of Bahamians in a positive way”.
