Seven day forecast for The Bahamas 24th to 30th May 2018

General Situation: Tropical moisture associated with a developing broad area of low pressure in the Western Caribbean Sea continues to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms across our Bahama Islands. Meahwhile a strong high pressure ridge across the Atlantic waters will maintain moderate to fresh breezes across the area. Developing low pressure system near the Eastern Yucatan will move northward with a 70 percent chance of development by Saturday and about a 90 percent chance of development by Monday into a subtropical or tropical depression or storm in the Central or Eastern Gulf of Mexico. As system moves inland near or over the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts, Atlantic high pressure ridge will build back across the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

 

Thursday 24th – Variable cloudiness and warm with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly during the day through night time. Maximum temperature 84°F and minimum temperature 77°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds SE’ly at 10 to 15 knots in the NW Bahamas and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet over the NW Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet in the Central and SE Bahamas.

Friday 25th – Partly cloudy to cloudy, breezy and warm with few scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms during the day through night time. Maximum temperature 85°F and minimum temperature 76°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the Central and SE Bahamas and a caution will come into effect for the NW Bahamas later. Winds SE’ly at 12 to 18 knots across the NW Bahamas increasing to 15 to 20 knots later and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas. Seas 3 to 5 feet over the NW Bahamas, building to 4 to 6 feeet later and 4 to 6 feet in the Central and SE Bahamas.

Saturday 26th – Mostly cloudy to occasionally overcast, windy and warm with scattered showers and widely scattered thunderstorms, some heavy to severe at times during the day through nightfall for the entire Bahamas. Maximum temperature 83°F and minimum temperature 76°F. Small craft caution continues across the entire Bahamas. Winds E to SE at 15 to 20 knots across the entire Bahamas but increasing to 15 to 25 knots with higher gusts across parts of the NW Bahamas by nightfall. Seas 4 to 6 feet over the entire Bahamas but building to 5 to 8 feet in parts of the NW Bahamas by night time.

Sunday 27th – Mostly cloudy to overcast, windy and warm with scattered showers and widely scattered thunderstorms, some heavy to severe at times across the NW Bahamas during the day through night time. Partly to mostly cloudy, breezy and warm with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly in the Central Bahamas during the day through nightfall. Maximum temperature 84°F and minimum temperature 76°F. Small craft advisory is in effect for the NW Bahamas and a caution continues for the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds SE to S at 15 to 25 knots in the NW Bahamas and ESE to SSE at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas. Seas 5 to 8 feet in the NW Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet over the Central and SE Bahamas.

Monday 28th – Mostly cloudy to overcast, warm and breezy at times with lingering scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW and Central Bahamas during the day through night time. Maximum temperature 84°F and minimum temperature 76°F. Small craft should exercise caution across the entire Bahamas. Winds SE to S at 15 to 20 knots across the NW and Central Bahamas and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots across the SE Bahamas. Seas 4 to 6 feet over the entire Bahamas.

Tuesday 29th – Mostly cloudy to occasionally overcast, warm and a bit breezy at time in scattered showers and widely scattered thunderstorms over the Bahamas during the day through night time. Maximum temperature 84°F and minimum temperature 76°F. Small craft caution should exercise caution in the Central and SE Bahamas. Winds SE to S at 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts in the NW Bahamas and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots across the Central and SE Bahamas. Seas 2 to 4 feet over the NW Bahamas and 4 to 6 feet across the Central and SE Bahamas.

Wednesday 30th – Partly to mostly cloudy, warm and breezy at times with lingering scattered showers or
isolated thunderstorms mainly across the NW and Central Bahamas. Maximum temperature 86°F and minimum
temperature 77°F. Small craft should exercise caution for all areas early. Winds SE to S at 15 to 20 knots early in the NW Bahamas, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots later and E to SE at 15 to 20 knots in the Central and SE Bahamas, decreasaing to 10 to 15 knots later. Seas 4 to 6 feet over the entire Bahamas, falling to 2 to 4 feet over all areas later.

Beachgoers and Mariners should exercise extreme caution due to the risk of high surf and dangerous rip currents along the northern and eastern shorelines during stated advisories. Boaters and beachgoers should be alert for possible waterspout activite and take all necessary precautions to protect life and property. Residents should be alert for the risk of localized flooding during heavy downpours and prolonged rainfall events.
