The bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 5:00pm until 8:00pm friday 18th may 2018.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Andros and Grand Bahama, while a severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for Exuma and their adjacent waters.

At 5:00pm lightning detector, radar and satellite imagery depicted clusters of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms moving towards and across the warning areas and approaching the watch area.

Some of these showers and thunderstorms may be severe to heavy at times causing strong damaging winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, flooding in low lying areas, and possible hail, waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning areas should stay indoors and away from windows. Boaters and residents in the watch area should be prepared to take quick action should conditions deteriorate. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
