The bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 2:45pm until 4:45pm friday 18th may 2018.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Grand Bahama, sandy point, abaco and their adjacent waters.

At 2:42pm lightning detector, radar and satellite imagery depicted clusters of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms moving towards and across the warning areas.

Some of these showers and thunderstorms may be severe to heavy at times causing strong damaging winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, flooding in low lying areas, and possible hail, waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning areas should stay indoors and away from windows. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
