Executives of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Members of the Keep Grand Bahama Committee and members of the GB Business Community met last week with the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) to discuss the enforcement of anti-littering and illegal dumping laws as well plans for a citywide cleanup effort.

“We as residents and licensees also have to do our part to keep our island clean,” said Andrea Thompson, GB Business Owner.

“My husband and I and many of our business colleagues are working with the GBPA to help make Freeport become the ‘Magic City’ we all love and remember.”

Resulting from that meeting are plans for increased diligence on the part of the police; this includes the enforcement of fines for residents found indiscriminately littering or otherwise disregarding laws on illegal dumping, particularly in non-developed areas.

Authorities have also committed to working with the MOE to deter beach littering and dumping of derelict cars as well.
