Central Eleuthera High School students seeking to become primary school teachers can now apply for the Karen E. Miller Crean Scholarship, named in honour of an acclaimed veteran educator and tenable at University of The Bahamas. This is the latest scholarship specifically for Family Island residents as donors continue to demonstrate their belief in the transformative power of tertiary education.

UB signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the scholarship fund on Wednesday, 25th April.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit to a full-time student entering a primary education degree programme, who will be required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00, with academic retention criteria.

A veteran educator, Mrs. Karen Miller-Crean is a retired teacher and principal. She earned her Teaching Certificate at the Bahamas Teachers’ College and her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education at St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She served as principal/administrator at Lower Bogue All-Age, Governour’s Harbour Primary and Emma E. Cooper Primary schools. With a distinguished legacy in education, Mrs. Miller-Crean was also awarded the Primary Principal’s Public Service Award for the Eleuthera District.
