The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 8:10am until 10:10am Tuesday 8th may 2018.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Exuma, Cat Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, North Long Island and their adjacent waters.

At 8:05am radar, lightning detector and satellite imagery depicted clusters of thunderstorms moving northeastwards, across or near the mentioned islands.

Some of these thunderstorms will be heavy to severe at times causing strong damaging winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen.

Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
