The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) hosted a breakfast for Parliamentarians including Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Hubert Minnis at Atlantis, Thursday, May 3, 2018.

In brief remarks, the Prime Minister noted the importance of PAHO to The Bahamas and the entire Caribbean.

He said PAHO has the Revolving Fund for Vaccine Procurement, which allows the country to access immunizations at a really reduced cost.

PAHO’s Revolving Fund is a cooperation mechanism for the joint procurement of vaccines, syringes and related supplies for participating Member States that has been in existence for almost 35 years.

He called attention to the challenge of non-communicable diseases that are now affecting The Bahamas, and the fact that the organization is aggressively assisting in the fight.

PAHO held its Caribbean Country and Sub-regional Managers’ Regional Meeting in The Bahamas. During the meeting the Organization honoured longtime healthcare professional, Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis who received the Public Health Hero of the Americas Award.
