The month of April ushers in an aura of collective turmoil for college students, who enter panic-mode in a mad rush to brace for last-minute assignments and final exams.

With the Spring 2018 semester drawing to an end, members of the University of The Bahamas’ (UB) Concert Choir are preparing for another type of rush – excitement - as they prepare to embark on a “tour of musical and cultural exchange.” The musical team will serenade the ears and hearts of our friendly neighbours up north when they travel to Alberta, Canada on April 27th.

Kristen Saunders, President of the Choir’s student committee, said, “Just as any other artist, the UB Choir goes on tours.

It is an opportunity to travel to a country and offer our musical performances as a form of cultural exchange. As the musical representatives for the official tertiary institution of The Bahamas, it’s important for us to gain exposure and continue self-development in hopes of setting the standard for quality choral performances by Bahamians.”

A donation from CIBC FirstCaribbean will assist the approximately 40 students and several faculty members to make the trip. “The arts are just as important as the normal academic areas of study for the development of a well-rounded graduate.

We are always ready to support educational initiatives for the youth of The Bahamas,” said the bank’s Managing Director Marie Rodland-Allen.

Saunders said, “The UB Concert Choir serves as a healthy social and educational opportunity for young people.

We have a long-term goal to travel more and improve our reputation as a renowned choir. This donation means that there are people who believe in the advancement of young people and that CIBC FirstCaribbean values the building of our nation by gifting us this very tangible token.”
