Winning the Miss World Bahamas title and wearing the coveted crown is viewed as reaching the pinnacle of success by beauty pageant contestants country-wide.

And next month on May 27th, a new Miss World Bahamas queen will be named to represent The Bahamas in the global quest later this year to find Miss World, a heady international title with much kudos for the winning entrant and her country.

But first there’s Boot Camp for the 11 contestants. Who knew? But, yes, beauty pageant Boot Camp is an important and necessary component of the process in the selection of a Bahamas’ representative, and over the recent Easter period, Sandyport Beach Resort in Nassau was the picturesque ground zero arena for training, photography and video shoots.

“Sandyport Beach Resort proved to be the perfect place for us,” said Jerome Sawyer, Miss Bahamas Organization VP and PR Director. “We always need to have a stand-out backdrop for our video and photography shoots to deliver a wow factor to the TV audience.

Which is why a visually stunning location is so important – the Sandyport Beach Resort provides that – it is authentically Bahamian and benefits from lagoon and ocean access for a variety of colourful scenarios. The MoVi film crew were really spoilt for choice as far as the different backdrops to stage the swim and evening wear shoots.”

Held over the 4-day Easter weekend, the only time all the contestants could be together, each day began at 7:30 a.m. in the Resort’s Starfish Room and adhered to a 5-page itinerary ending 14 hours later.

Segment titles such as Purpose and Mission, Self Esteem, Effective Public Speaking, Health and Nutrition, Personal Projection, and Lasting Impressions – which included a segment on how to handle the media – were managed by panels of Industry-related, knowledgeable professionals. “The two days of classroom theory on life situation management and the skill sets required during the lead up to the finale, and beyond of course for the ultimate winner going forward into the international event, are invaluable for all concerned. There’s always a packed agenda,” said Mr. Sawyer.

“The last two days are dedicated to the actual photo and video shoots and the taping of the first episodes of “Road to The Crown,” the Cable 12 TV reality show leading up to the Miss World Bahamas televised finale on May 27.”

Vernon Moss, Sandyport Beach Resort General Manager, expressed his admiration for the Miss Bahamas Organization, saying their presence was a pleasure and more than welcome. “We were full over Easter and we had compliments from many of our guests as the contestants went about their photo and TV shoots. I am proud to be able to say we have this collaboration with Miss Bahamas, it’s a big thing and we are pleased to be a part of it.”
