Culture Department Hosts Mini Bahamian Music Workshop for California Choir

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture hosted a number of members of the Edison High School Choir to a mini workshop on Bahamian music, on April 5, 2018.

Senior Cultural Affairs Officer Sonovia Pierre lead the Californian choir students through the history and culture of Junkanoo and Rake-N-Scrape, while using a mixture of live musicians, singing and audio visual aids.

Among those taking part in the workshop from the Ministry were Permanent Secretary Nicole Campbell, Director of Youth K. Darron Turnquest, Junkanoo icon "Fast" Eddie Dames, Youth Officer John Darville, and various staff members. Afterwards, the choir gave a pop-up performance in the foyer of the building.(BIS Photos/Eric Rose)
